A phenomenon which is ubiquitously seen is that many
attractions require costly entrance fees and build up numerous
souvenir shops. Some people argue that commercial management of
tourist attractions damage the culture of these memorable places,
while others allegthat only by using these scenic spots to make
more money can we protect these traditions.
Indeed, we have to admit that traditional culture has been
influenced by tourism, which has an aim of acquiring more economic
benefit. Commercial changing of traditional culture, leading to a
severedestruction. Tourism, which have a final aiming of
development of economics, makes culture changing into a tool for
earning money. For instance, some feasts or celebrations used to
hold only duringthe corresponding festival, whilst nowadays, in
order to fulfill the requirements of travelers and enhance their
attraction, locals preform nearly every day. This actions go back
on traditional culture,andculture has been commercialized.
Meanwhile, those people who originally come to get touch with the
traditional manners and customs purely, are often end with buying a
lot of souvenirs, abandoning their original aim. Furthermore, the
overdevelopment of tourist industry will lead to the invasion of
some foreign culture, consequently, have an impact on the local
costume. Generally, areas, which have several national historic
site, are always in some developing countries, with relatively
out-date economics, education, etc. When travelers who come from
some modern city show superiority complex unintentionally during
the visit, locals may feel their culture has a low level as others,
then lose heart to their traditional culture, hindering culture
heritage.In addition, too many people living in fragile
environments have lost control over their economies, their culture
and their environment when tourist has penetrated their homeland.
These can account for why excessive tourism do harm to local
culture.
The view that develop the tourism industry is the only way to
protect our costume also does makesense. First of all, obviously,
considering about other methods, such as education and publicity,
tourism is the most directly way to enhance people's consciousness
of culture preservation. Individuals will not realize the value of
their precious civilization until the culture makes a profit for
them, therefore they spend efforts to preserve their culture, which
is a fountainof the treasure. Many disappeared traditional cultures
are the result of locals' ignorance of the value. They have not
been motivated to protect and inherit their cultural. Just because
of this, some authorities of lots of ethnic cultures which is
confronting disappearance begin advocating the development of
tourism industry. Only in this way can we keep cultural diversity.
Secondly, it is undoubtedly that money is the prerequisite of the
protection of our culture and tradition. A lot of places of
historic interest collapse just because of inadequate supporting
finance to maintenance continuously. At the same time, as what has
been mentioned, cities with rich culture resources and long
histories are relatively poor, only when they earn adequate tax
income can these historical attractions be protected and inherited.
To be certain, developing tourism is the only way to make money,
and that is why tourism is a decisive element to inherit
traditional culture.
From what has been discussed above, although tourism
has made some social influence, it is a must in preservation, which
is a relatively effective and direct method. Without doubt, as long
as we can plan reasonably and refuse to pursue economic interests
blindly, culture can be well protected. Ideally, we should try our
best to protect traditional culture via a comprehensive way which
is assisted with education and media publicity.
